Kathmandu, April 13: One Brigade Vice commander of Maoist cadre is reported to have died while some others were injured as two mortar bombs accidentally went off near Ghodaghodi lake at a time when a large number of terrorists gathered here from Chaumala to Ghodaghodi lake .
The terrorist group had come together here to prepare for attack on Sukhhad of Kailali district, according to the Division head Quarter of Dipayaal in far western region which quoted locals as saying.

They are said to have cancelled the plan later after the incident, and headed towards the forest in the south.

मौसुफबाट आइतवार मन्त्री परिषद्का उपाध्यक्षद्वय डाक्टर तुलसी गिरी तथा किर्तिनिधि विष्टसंग संयुक्तरुपमा भेट गरीबक्सको थियो।
आइतवार नै श्री ५ बाट संयुक्त राज्य अमेरीका, भारत तथा चिनका काठमाडौंस्थित राजदूतहरुलाई पनि भेट बक्सेको थियो।
आइतवार भएका भेटघाटहरुका सम्वन्धमा कुनै जानकारी प्रकाशमा आएको छैन।
तर भारतस्थित नेपाली मामिलाका एकजना विज्ञ जनरल अशोक मेहताले बीबीसी नेपाली सेवासंग कुरा गर्दै हालैका दिनहरुमा भारतले पहिले, पहिले झै नेपालका लागि संवैधानिक राजतन्त्र र बहूदलीय प्रजातन्त्र दुबै अपरिहार्य छ भनेर जोड दिन छाडेको बताउनु भयो।
सोमवार राजासंग भेट गर्नुहुने श्री भट्टराईले राजाले आफूलाई सहयोग गर्न अनुरोध गरीबक्सेको तर आफूले २०४७ सालको संविधान अनुरुप प्रजातन्त्र पुर्नस्थापना नभएसम्म सहयोग गर्न नसक्ने स्पष्ट पारेको बताउनुभयो।
श्री थापाले भने भेटपछि पत्रकारहरुसंग भएको संक्षीप्त कुराकानीमा देशको अहिलेको परिस्थितिबारे गम्भिर छलफल भएको मात्र उल्लेख गर्नुभयो।
श्री ५ बाट नयाँ वर्षको अवसरमा बक्स भएको सन्देशमा संवादमाथि दिइएको जोड र त्यसपछि चर्कीएको आन्दोलनको परिप्रेक्ष्यमा वर्तमान भेटहरु भैरहेको ठानिएको छ।
बीबीसीका काठमाडौं संवाददाता सुशील शर्माका अनुसार राजाबाट आउंदा दिनहरुमा अन्य भूतपूर्व प्रधानमन्त्रीहरूसंग पनि भेट गरीबक्सने संभावना छ।
तर नेपाली कांग्रेसका एकजना नेतालाई उद्धृत गर्दै हाम्रा संवाददाता भन्छन्, वर्तमान आन्दोलनको नेतृत्व गरीरहनुभएका दुई प्रमूख नेताहरु भूतपूर्व प्रधानमन्त्रीद्वय गिरीजाप्रसाद कोइराला र शेरबहादुर देउवा भने राजाबाट सार्वजनिकरुपमा राजकीय सत्ता जनतामा हस्तान्तरण भएको घोषणा नभएसम्म राजासंग भेटगर्ने पक्षमा हुनुहुन्न।

Reuters begins its story with headlines that call the demonstrations "mostly peaceful", but continues on with more information about the lawyers' demonstration. It also includes a bit about a demonstration in Pokhara.
Thousands of people marched in the western tourist resort town of Pokhara in memory of one activist shot dead by troops during a protest last week.
"My son-in-law gave his life for democracy. His sacrifice should not go waste," Uma Devi Poudel, the victim's mother-in-law, told the assembly as she tried to hold back her tears, a witness said.

The Nepalese people want justice and democracy in their country. '"We want a democratic republic where people make policies, people make laws and people are the rulers," said Mukta Shreshta, a woman activist, as nearly 3,000 people cheered her in the Kathmandu suburb of Kirtipur.'(Reuters) King Gyanendra, especially since he shut down the rest of the government last year, seems to be a stumbling block in moving in that direction. Because of the King's actions, "The (pro-Maoist) rebels and the seven political parties formed a loose alliance last November under which the Maoists are backing the latest anti-king campaign." The UN has asked the Nepalese government "to stop its "excessive use of force" against pro-democracy demonstrators, including severe beatings, indiscriminate attacks on bystanders and "seriously unacceptable" detention conditions." (from the Times of India (4/13/06)

Govt gives security agencies a free hand

Home Minister Kamal Thapa today said the security personnel who will be
in charge of providing security for the municipal polls across the 58
municipalities tomorrow could be expected to fire straight away in the
event of any threat to peaceful voting. The announcement to this effect

People will cast vote: Rana

Kathmandu, February 6: Minister of State for Information and
Communication, Shrish Shumsher Rana, today said people would dare exercise
their franchise on Wednesday, defying the Maoist threat of intimidation
and political parties’ boycott. “In the beginning, some organised
political parties had claimed that the elections would not be conducted.
When the date for the same was fixed, they decided to disrupt it.

Deteriorating Nepal's situations!

Maoist-called bandh today saw life crippled in the Valley, with marginal
vehicular movement on the roads and most shops remaining closed.
Educational institutions, major commercial establishments, private offices
and shops in major hubs

Educational institutions, major commercial establishments, private offices
and shops in major hubs of the capital remained closed. However, shops and
offices in the bylanes were open.
Yesterday, the traffic police seized around 500 vehicles in a bid to to
force the vehicle owners to function on bandh days. Consequently, today
more vehicles were seen plying than on previous bandhs.
Some taxi drivers, however, said that they worked today to earn more
money. “I always ply my vehicle during strikes because I charge more money
on such days,” said Bharat Thapa Magar, of Dhading. Buses belonging to
Nepal Yatayat, Kantipur Yatayat, a few micro-buses, tempos and Tata mobile
vans were running.
The Bomb Disposal Team of the security forces defused bombs near the Royal
Nepal Airlines Corporation, New Road and near Gopikrishna Hall at
Chabahil. A bomb hoax at Balkhu created tension for more than a hour,
police said.
In Bhaktapur last night, Maoists blew up the office of the Theche village
development committee.
According to police, a pressure cooker bomb exploded at the VDC office
gate around midnight. The blast damaged the office main gate, shattered
window panes and damaged furniture and documents.
No human casualty has been reported. Meanwhile, public life was crippled
throughout the nation on the first day of a week-long general strike
called by the Maoists. There was scant vehicular movement on roads across
Pokhara and most shops, barring some tea stalls, remained closed. Most
academic institutions also remained closed. A few vehicles were seen
plying, that too under the protection of the security forces. Additional
security personnel were deployed in Pokhara. No untoward incident was
reported in Kaski district, the District Police office, Kaski, said.
In Chitwan, normal life was brought to a standstill due to the bandh. Only
bicycles and rickshaws could be seen plying on the roads while academic
and business institutions remained closed.
A report from Bara said most of the shops, local industries and academic
institutions in the district remained closed and only a few government
personnel attended office. The first day of the bandh crippled normal life
in Rautahat too.
A report from Rupandehi said the bandh affected normal life in the
district. Though the local administration had urged people to go about
their business as usual, most shops remained closed.
Our Sarlahi-based correspondent reported that most business and academic
establishments remained closed. Police personnel were deployed to open
shops in Malangwa bazaar this morning, but the shop owners demurred. The
Maoists placed obstacles on the Lalbandi section of the Mahendra Highway.
Police forcibly opened the main business centres in Dhading district,
including in Dhadingbeshi, the district headquarters. Most of the business
institutions remained shut and the streets were deserted. Ambulances were
plying on the Tribhuvan and Prithvi highways under the escort of security
forces.
A report from Birgunj said most sectors were affected by the bandh.
Unified security forces were deployed at the main chowks of the city. This
morning, security forces tried to run some vehicles under their control.
In Janakpurdham, a few motorbikes could be seen plying, but most private
enterprises remained closed. The government-run Janakpur Cigarette Factory
and Janakpur-Jayanagar Rail service were open for operation, though.
A report from Pyuthan said all social sectors in the district remained
closed. The Maoists staged torch rallies at Bijaynagar, Bijuwar and
Dharmawati, among other places, locals said.
In Tanahun, most educational institutions remained closed while few people
could be seen in government offices.
The Maoists obstructed the Mahendra highway’s Belbari to Kakarvitta
section. Traffic came to a halt and all shops, industrial houses,
educational institutes remained shut. The bomb disposal team dispatched
from the RNA’s eastern divisional headquarters deactivated the Maoists’
bomb at the Morang’s Jirikhimti, said the RNA’s eastern divisional
headquarters.
A report from Phidim said the local administration used security personnel
to open some of the shops in Phidim, yet educational institutes and
factories remained shut.
A report from Dhankuta said the bandh affected life there in a big way.
Sunsari district was also affected by the bandh, as was Bhairahawa. The
bandh also affected normal life in Biratnagar, Gorkha, Syangja, Baglung,
Myagdi, Parbat, Dolakha, Rajbiraj and Kanchanpur.

Maoists called a week long Nepal bandha-strike is said to be much
effective. Almost every corners of Nepal got silent. This transportation
and educational institutes closure have reported to be closed for this
week.

And everything is planned for to disturb the upcoming municipal elections.
